On Saturday January 27th, the 50th Annual Robbie Burns Bonspiel was played at the Thornhill Club.
The event consisted of 22 teams, 12 teams representing Thornhill and 10 outside teams competing for the “Rabbie Burns” trophy that was donated by former Toronto Board Trade CC many years ago.
This year’s event recognized long time member and curler John Stark with a plaque for his many years of volunteer service on committees of both the Robbie Burns and St. Paddy’s Day Bonspiels.
This year’s edition of the bonspiel was hotly contested with the team representing Oshawa Golf and Curling Club consisting of skip Jim Cushnie, Andy Ireland, Gary Cleghorn and Marty Preston winning the overall title.
Second place was team Shpuniarsky from High Park consisting of skip Michael Shpuniarsky, Zachary Levinsky, Doug Garrie and Bill Wheeler.
Third was the Thornhill team of skip Tom Gillett and his 3 boys Brian, Kevin and Owen.
Special thank you to committee members Peter Cadorin and Mike Collinge for executing another great event, and to our food beverage team for the exceptional food and service this day.
